Oklahoma Division of International Cake Exploration Societe' (ICES) "Day of Sharing"
Workshop Description
The Robert M. Kerr Food & Agricultural Products Center is pleased to host the Oklahoma Division of International Cake Exploration Societe's "Day of Sharing."
Twice a year, sugar artists and cake decorators from Oklahoma and surrounding states meet for a "Day of Sharing" – a day to teach each other new methods and techniques.
The day will begin at 9 a.m. with check-in and a continental breakfast. The day will be packed with talented and experienced instructors sharing their knowledge. This is all hands on and lunch will be provided.
Demonstrators scheduled to appear include:
Becky Rink - Rink is the owner of About the Cake in Avon, Ohio. Her passion for decorating stems from her childhood. Specializing in sculpted and unusual cakes, she has received several awards for her work. Her portfolio includes a variety of cakes currently and previously featured on American Greeting Cards, the pages of Today's Bride Magazine and Wedding Cakes, A Design Source. She is the author of "The Top Shelf Baker - Sweet Treats From a Well-Stocked Bar" and has also been seen on TLC's "Ultimate Cake Off" twice and We TV's "Wedding Car Wars." Rink is a free-lance instructor and judge, which has taken her across the country and allows her to share her passion of the art of cake decorating.
Earlene Moore - Moore has been playing in sugar for over 40 years. Initially self-taught, she has since had the privilege of learning from a "Who's Who" of the industry's most notable teachers - Roland Winbeckler, Jolm McNamara, Francis Kyper, Josefa E. Barloco, Diane Shavkin, Eleanor Rielander, Rosemary Watson, Sandy Hargrave and Nicholas Lodge to name just a few. Moore's passion and persistence has paid off with a showering of ribbons and awards. Her days with ICES began in 1977 when she became a charter member. She has served on the board of directors, committees and as President of the organization in 1987-1988. In 2004, Moore received the Wilbur Brand award for her dedication and outstanding service to ICES. Today, Moore enjoys traveling the country teaching and sharing her love and great knowledge of sugar art.
Ruth Rickey - Rickey and her husband own Ruth's Sweete Justice in Oklahoma City. Rickey graduated from Henderson State University with a double major in Speech & Drama and English Education, with minors in Psychology and Business. She graduated from University of Oklahoma College of Law and practiced law locally for about 10 years. Rickey went from an attorney to cake artist after taking a fun job at an upscale grocery decorating and running a bakery. During the summer of 2009, she earned credentials as an ICES Certified Master Sugar Artist. She is a highly decorated sugar artist whose work has been in numerous publications. She has appeared on The Food Network, We TV and TLC. She enjoys teaching and sharing her talent as the instructor at her own Oklahoma Sugar Art Academy.
