FAPC to host Financial Management Workshop

STILLWATER, Okla. – The Food & Agricultural Products Center on the Oklahoma State University campus is hosting a workshop entitled, “Do Your Dollars Make Sense? How to Forecast and Analyze Your Financial Statements.” The workshop will be held Sept. 29 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the FAPC.

The interactive workshop will allow participants to address business issues through financial management assistance, discussion of better accounting systems, strategies and examples of proper accounting techniques and record keeping, said Corey Stone, FAPC business planning and marketing specialist and chair of the workshop.

“Many times small businesses owners concerned with the new sales and marketing techniques may overlook their financial health,” he said. “This workshop is designed to educate small business owners about better managing their business finances.”

While each small business is different, there are some basic financial management and accounting principles that every business owner should understand.

Some of these principles include how to structure a business, how much cash is needed on hand, when to tell if the business is making a profit, how often to collect on receivables and how to determine the true product cost. To make better business decisions, all the information must be understood.

The workshop also will include a case study in accounting principles and financial management, an interactive CD-ROM for home reference, a featured luncheon speaker and discussions with FAPC faculty and staff.

“Participants will find themselves engaged in a case study based on an actual small business that has just reached its breakeven point and is facing certain expansion to survive,” Stone said.

The workshop should prove to be an incredible educational experience for anyone interested in small business, Stone said.

“Participants will have the opportunity to work together with FAPC specialists to identify potential pitfalls and determine paths to continued financial success,” he said. “They will be able to go back to their business and immediately apply what they have learned.”

The early bird registration fee is $85 and is due Sept. 16. After Sept. 16, registration is $100. The registration fee covers lunch, refreshments and workshop material.

To register, complete the registration form on the reverse side. Participants may also register by contacting Jerri Beth Strickland, FAPC workshop coordinator, at (405) 744-6277 or jerri.beth.strickland@okstate.edu or registering online at www.fapc.biz/fmworkshop.html.
