FAPC to host Biodiesel Workshop
STILLWATER, Okla. – The Food & Agricultural Products Center on the campus of Oklahoma State University is hosting a Biodiesel Workshop on Oct. 10, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. in room 120 of the FAPC.
“The biodiesel industry is expanding dramatically in the United States and around the world, said Nurhan Dunford, FAPC oilseed chemist and workshop chair. “High petroleum prices, concerns over long-term availability of fossil fuels and environmental issues have escalated the demand for alternatives fuels.”
As the biodiesel production capacity increases in the United States, more and more Oklahoma-based entrepreneurs and businesses are becoming interested in getting involved in biofuels.
“I do get a lot of questions on biodiesel production techniques, feedstock selection and feasibility of biodiesel production facilities from FAPC clients,” Dunford said.
The interactive biodiesel workshop topics will include biodiesel production technologies, feedstock selection, glycerin purification, biodiesel standards and quality issues, and feasibility of biodiesel production operations.
The FAPC is fortunate that nationally recognized experts in the field agreed to come to the FAPC and speak at this workshop, Dunford said.
“I believe that this workshop is a tremendous opportunity for Oklahomans who are interested in biodiesel production to learn about the economics and technical issues involved in biodiesel production directly from experts in the field,” she said.
Speakers of the workshop include Dunford; Jim Willits, Desmat Ballestra – North America; Robert Dunn, Food & Industrial Oils Research, USDA; Ted Neuman, Westfalia Separator Inc.; Phil Kenkel, Bill Fitzwater Endowed Coop Chair, OSU Agricultural Economics; and Perry Allasti, Artisan Industries Inc.
The workshop will conclude with a roundtable discussion allowing participants to interact with the experts and ask questions.
The registration fee is $150 before Sept. 29 and $200 after Sept. 29. The registration fee covers lunch, refreshments, parking and workshop materials. A certificate will be presented to each participant upon completion of the workshop.
