Adding Value to Oklahoma

FAPC/MTC Workshop to discuss
financial records and record keeping

STILLWATER, Okla. – The Food & Agricultural Products Center and the Meridian Technology Center for Business Development are conducting a workshop for new and existing businesses.

The workshop will be held at the Meridian Technology Center for Business Development in Stillwater, Okla. on Oct. 19 from 9 a.m. to noon.

The workshop, designed in a question and answer format, will provide participants the opportunity to visit one-on-one with a CPA to discuss accounting practices, the importance of keeping financial records and other issues related to business financial performance, said Vické Adams, MTC small business management coordinator.

“This is a great opportunity to get expert advice from a professional accountant,” Adams said. “The workshop will be led by Tom Dugger, a CPA and president of Dugger & Company, CPAs PC.”

Participants may bring their own financial records to refer to specific questions as time permits.

The workshop will greatly benefit many of the FAPC new start-up food companies, said Rodney Holcomb, FAPC food industry economist.

“In our Basic Training workshop, we enforce the common business logic of financial record keeping for the purposes of tracking costs, cash inflows and outflows, liquidity and determining the ‘real’ value of a business,” Holcomb said. “Only by keeping accurate records can one determine how much profit is being generated, where efficiency can be gained and how the company is performing compared to competitors or similar-sized companies in the same market.”

The registration fee is $10 and covers materials and a continental breakfast. Space is limited, so advanced registration is required. Further information and online registration are available at www.meridian-technology.com/smallbusiness or by calling (405) 377-2220.
